Hi Reader,

2 Cups of Coffee

1 Real Story
When I worked at Caerus Associates, a small gov con mostly doing work for DARPA, my closest collaborator was Erin, our CEO. The rule with Erin was simple: don’t talk to her until she’d had two cups of coffee—or until she approached me first. Sometimes that meant 8:30, sometimes maybe 11.

And you know what? It worked.

We were a great pair. She was an extraordinary data scientist and customer-facing strategist—brilliant in ways I wasn’t. I ran the back-office: money, operations, people. She respected what I did, I respected what she did, and we collaborated where we overlapped. No micromanaging. No ego battles. Just trust and clarity about how we worked best.

1 Leadership Insight
Partnerships thrive when people:

  • Respect each other’s strengths
  • Stay in their lanes while collaborating where it matters
  • Allow space for quirks (yes, I have mine!)

1 Practical Takeaway

Whether you’re leading or teaming, remember: great partnerships aren’t about sameness, they’re about balance.

Figure out each other’s rhythms, respect the differences, and lean into the strengths. That’s where the magic happens.

See you next week with another Dose.

Even though this is a “mass email” I mean it when I say—let me know what you are up to. Reply, book a Zoom, pick up the phone. I’d love to catch up.

Thanks for letting me show up in your inbox.
We’ll do this again next Thursday.

More joy. Less friction. Always.
